Van Gogh was obviously outrageous in the presentation of his views. But I consider him brave and courageous for defying
the consensus, for being a pain in the ass, but a pain in the ass whose views were much more right than wrong.

He rightfully battled a fundamentalist religious insanity so stupid it literally believes on religious grounds that the world is flat.

It seems to me that this dynamic is energizing the tolerant Dutch middle class. They may not have liked VG's undiplomatic way of doing things. Nonethless, he clearly recognized something that is being slowly being recognized globally, i.e., Muslim fundamentalism is in a dangerous revival fueled by the delusional notions that it singlehandedly tumbled the Soviet Union and almost caused the collapse of the Western economies on 9/11.

The Europeans will wake up when cataclysmic terror strikes them. Spain was but a small taste of what is coming. Bernard Lewis' warning to the French that their country will be Muslim by the end of the century has gotten the attention of some enlightened French as has Oriana Fallaci's penchant for calling Europe "Eurabia." Julie Burchill is also fueling the fire. Interestingly, these two women are leftist--Burchill in fact is or was a Communist--something I find astonishing.

Van Gogh was a visionary and a very courageous guy. He used his art to make a profund political statement and paid with his life for it.

I don't know where this is all going. I fear that the Europeans have allowed themselves to be infected by a deadly enemy through their lax immigration laws. We may have religious strife and terror to deal with for decades.
