Then there's the time when Marquis de Montcalm permitted surrendering British to depart with arms if they agreed to surrender Ft. William Henry. Then he told his Indian contingent where they might collect some easy scalps. And they did.
NOBODY said the French weren't sneaky. Just cowards. :-)

Of course, they later did provide General Washington with young Mister Lafayette, who if I'm not mistaken might have been wounded or defeated, but never surrendered.
Yes, but Mr. Lafayette was working with AMERICAN TROOPS! Makes a difference.
