I don't have a link, but somewhere I read that the unemployment rate among US software engineers is 30%, and extreme downward pressure exists on the salaries of those still employed, coupled with a reduction in benefits. I know President Bush is proposing we all go back to junior college to learn a new skill, but I don't recall any specific recommendations as to a field of study. Maybe nursing? Perhaps the uninsured can get by taking care of the insured.
