Novell is Pinched - MOAB has froze the Market

Novell has put itself in a very tough spot. The market is on board with the need to have a JAVA kernal within the Network OS itself and not in the Web server on top of the Network OS and more importantly the need for native tcpip services, clustering, and a development oppurtunity that frees folks from NLMs.....

All this adds up to Skip 4.X and wait for 5.X better known as that little dusty town in southeast Utah - MOAB.

Revenues for this quarter will be aweful. I mean horrible. Lets wait for the SEC filing and trend out the numbers for this year. Sales are falling like a stone. It will only get worse as the release date nears. Next quarter is a loss.

Border Manager - Look at historical sales on product introductions. Not to be confiused with upgrades to existing products. Border Manager will need some time to pick up steam. Vars need training - customers need educating - PCWEEK has to review it and choose it as Product of the year - it will take a while to sell 80,000,000 worth - a long long while. Check out sales for Network management products last quarter (17 MIllion I think I recall) - they are excellent but sell smallish amounts as the segment is for the technical elite - same for border manager IMO.

MOAB - We all wait - The market for Novell products is frozen - Better get a marketing plan together on how if we upgrade now to 4.X we get free MOAB and the conversion tools that make it a snap! What do you think? No time like the present. COmmunicate baby thats where its at!

Jim
