I heard NT lost out on a big UMTS contract that will be announced next week by the competition...

That has been generally known for several weeks now, at least the part about LU and ERICY being the leads. The #3 slot appeared up for grabs between NOK, NT. and Siemens, so looks like Siemens will get it.

While not really news any more, it is still amazing NT, with 4 of the 6 UMTS networks up and running at AT&T Wireless, will not even participate in the Cingular contract. This was a marketing failure.

On the restatement, my take is Nortel is now being forced to go back 2 more years, to 1999. JMHO, of course. On the positive side, it does appear their margins were and are better than they thought in the summer.

I think Owens views this situation a lot like I do. "Why in the hell did I get involved with this!"
