There is a great article by Khalil Shikaki in today’s Wall Street Journal (Op-Ed / Upper right) entitled What's Next I cannot find in to the web. He basically says the Peace may be much closer at hand, if things happen right. The old Nationalists and the young Nationalists must find common ground. The US should engage Mohamed Abbas before the election; this IHO would help him ensure some share of power. Weaken militant nationalists and Fattah. Israel, U.S and Int'l community need to extend a helping hand to the transitional leadership as it confronts potential rivals. ... ... The Islamisists are likely to to seek an effective opposition role. In the post-Arafat era, the Palestinians may finally get the democracy and accountable governance they deserve. To remain in power Mr. Abbas must immediately form a large coalition with the young guard by setting a date for elections. ...
