Exact same statement I've heard some Christians make about the violent parts of the Christian religion, "oh, just ignore the violent parts of the text."

RE: "It works very much the same way the Catholic church works. They continually try to update the religion based on the growth of society. It's still slow moving, but at least the Catholic church has grown."

There was a news report expressing concern Catholicism is decreasing in numbers overseas. In the USA, it certainly looks like Catholicism is decreasing as women head towards equality in America.
