Interesting that David Brooks should be carrying water for the administration on the CIA issue. Brooks is of course best known as a soft features writer, e.g., analyzing the lifestyles of the latest iteration of yuppies, and consumption patterns via zip codes.

He lives in Montgomery County so is "inside the Beltway" when it comes to the best gossip, but the CIA lives in Fairfax.

No, I don't know any good CIA gossip myself. In fact, I seem to have missed one of the high points of 2004, Ashcroft letting down his hair at the Federalist Society meeting. I was talked into staying home and helping put the second coat of Benjamin Moore Atrium White latex on the woodwork.

I am still trying to figure out how to interpret Frist being the main speaker for the dinner. Nobody important from the admininistration was there except for Elaine Chao, who always comes, and Ashcroft.

I figured Ashcroft would be a snooze.

Maybe I can catch it on C-SPAN.
