This weekend's Barrons, from an article on consumer electronics, NVDA CEO had these back of envelope numbers on consumer discretionary spending:

gas price Nov. 03: $1.50
gas price Nov. 04: $2.00
avg miles per household: 25,000
avg miles per gallon: 20
avg gals per year: 1,250
average cost from price rise: $656
discretionary in come per US household: $2,745
Number of US households: 108 million
Total lost income: $70.8 billion
Percent of disc. income spent on electronics: 30%
Total estimated lost electronic sales: $21.2 billion
avg semiconductor content: 20%
total lost semiconductor $4.2 billion

Point 2: depreciation benefits for IT spending expires at year end.

What's wrong with this picture, the silly season rules.
