Yes, we do have birch leaf miners. I don't know if the problem is getting worse or not. There's a lot of birch in some areas of my farm and I do lose the odd tree from time to time, but not really that many.

Nice Cecropia page. I learned something from it already. I definitely found cecropia eggs last summer, but didn't know what they were at the time. Well, I have shot quite a few photos of a nice, big Cecropia caterpillar this summer. If you go to this URL and then hit the "NEXT" link a few times, you'll see plenty of photos of this one -- although some aren't so nice -- When I took a very close look at this big caterpillar, I realized it had a lot of parasitoids burrowing into it... too bad.. I expect he won't survive to maturity. Bad story about many of the parasitoids. Apparently, most are introduced species -- larvae of various parasitic flies and wasps that lay their eggs on caterpillars. They are ones that were introduced to fight the Gypsy moths, etc.. only most find it easier to hunt for Cecropias nd the big caterpillars, so they are driving them closer to extinction. I found a full grown Luna caterpillar that was dying from similar parasitoids to the ones in my Cecropia photos. Makes me pretty mad. Anyhow, here are some of my photos. I have a lot of caterpillar photos in that gallery if you're interesting, take a look around. Btw.. I could never live where there weren't lots of insects and spiders for me to photograph!!!
