This is part of the long drumbeat the media is building to "get" Wal-Mart.
I know there's buzz, but I don't "get" what it's about.
Unions, or the lack thereof, is one thing, apparently. But that's too damned ironic. WalMart does wonderfully, for example, in the Carolinas, selling Chinese textiles to the families of former textile workers.
My sisters, both of whom voted for Kerry, shop enthusiastically at WalMart and never, ever check labels to see if the stuff they buy was made in China or in the US by a unionized company.
I am the only person I know who checks labels to see where things are made, but I supported Bush and support globalization. I just like to keep up with where things are coming from.
Every so often people will remark how everything is made in China these days, but then plunge right back in to buying things hand over fist. The prices are so good, and the quality is so high, it's unbelievable.
One of these days the Chinese will raise their prices and we'll look back on these days with nostalgia. |
