Not really. It was Peter's thesis that the "Democratic" states had a higher rate of unwed mothers than the "Republican" states. Given that most unwed mothers are teenagers, that bit of hyperbole is clearly wrong. Now true, there are more factors than just whether or not a state leans towards Democratic in a presidential election, but he was the one that came up with the very simple-minded comparison. That also happens to be wrong. Like his claims about marriages.

Such things correlate more closely with level of education and economic opportunity than with politics.
