>>> We rescued them ? Who called us ? Go tell the families of these dead civilians we rescued them if you want to find out what they feel.
Unfortunately, in life it doesn't come down the families of dead civilians. Surely, these people feel as though the entire burden has been placed on them. For that reason, they aren't the correct people to address the question to. It is a fact that some number of civilians had to die in order that Saddam be removed. The fact is that these people could not or did not remove the guy themselves. Either way, it is essential that we act to do so.
>> Freeing Iraq is a part of a more global battle against Terrorism
That is my view, and has been since the outset. Clearly, you don't see it that way. You're entitled to your own opinion, fine, but it is very short sighted.
>> The loss of innocent life is tragic now and it was tragic under saddam.
Sure it is. Nobody would disagree about that. But it is necessary to weigh the loss of those innocent lives with the good that is done, a part of which includes the saving of many MORE innocent lives. Again, not to degenerate to body counting, but if you want to go there, it is pretty clear there is a net saving of lives.
More importantly, the insertion of a free[er] country in the center of the Middle East will clearly have long-lasting, positive consequences.
You and I could never agree about this. |
