There is new book out, "In Defense of Internment", by Michelle Malkin.

amazon.com

The author is of Japanese descent. She presents the justifications for FDR's action. There is ample material on Amazon's description to give the gist of the argument. My 10,000 figure is just from recollection. It was a substantial number. In any case, just a handful of saboteurs or spies roaming at large in CA could have caused enormous harm to the war effort. The fact that little or no such incidents occurred after the internment is the best proof of its effectiveness, wouldn't you say? No one can say whether there would have been incidents had the JA's remained free and unfettered, but it is possible that we then would have learned the hard way.

As one who was there, I can say that the context of the times was that objections by the public or the media to the internment were minimal or nonexistent. We were too busy winning a war.
