Ray > Reminds me of how the Christians were actually responsible for most of the destruction of learning just before Europe fell into the Dark Ages at the end of the Roman Era....
Indeed. To those, like myself, who are neither a reborn Christian nor a Zionist, it really does present a very depressing picture. And even more scary, is the tacit implication that secular life has failed to provide a means to fulfilment for the "ordinary" person. This means there will be a resurgence of religion and religious fundamentalism -- and with it the warcry -- if you are not for me, then you are against me. Accordingly, we can look forward to religious wars everywhere. As you say, a hundred, if not a thousand year cycle of religious idolatry, superstition, myths, fantasies, anti-science and science fiction dressed up as science, violence, persecution, genocide, torture, pogroms, lynchings and burning of witches, racial intolerance and hatred, bigotry, self-righteousness, and who knows what else? I suppose Israel or, recently, Iraq, are ideal examples.
Gee, am I glad I'm out of here quite soon, but really do feel very sorry for my kids and grandchildren -- and everyone else's. |
