Ronald Reagan was not a super intellectual.

That's a fair enough statement. He wasn't a "super intellectual", but he was a lot more intelligent than many give him credit for. Look up some of his old writings.

I think GW is also a lot smarter then many give him credit for being he certainly isn't the idiot that some of his opponents paint him as being. But I'd also agree that he isn't a "super intellectual". Few politicians are, and actually many of those who are, are less effective at the job.

People like George Will and perhaps twfowler jumped on his bandwagon and tried to use Reagan's trickle down theory to advance their own notions of what our society should look like.

I don't know if you could say I jumped on his bandwagon. I do think he was the best president in my lifetime so maybe you could say that. Would you consider yourself to have jumped on the bandwagon of any president you support?

At this point I am far more libertarian than Reagan was.

Reagan never did manage to cut federal spending (either in total, or even if you just consider non-defense spending), and a lot of his initial tax cuts were rolled back by his later increases (which wouldn't have been necessary if he really could have gotten a handle on federal spending).

However, there is a snowball effect and there are unintended consequences. There are malevolent types (and make no mistakes about it, they are malevolent - as there are malevolent types anywhere in the world) trying to steer this snowball.

Could you expand on what you mean by that?

George W. Bush is not a visionary with any real thought out vision. He is merely an immediate gratification type.

I disagree with that. He has more vision than many presidents. It could be argued that his vision is wrong, some even call it dangerous, but it is vision not a quest for "immediate gratification".
