"Nobody else I know of is dropping trade barriers."

As I was trying to point out --- it's under the auspices of the WTO that the trade negotiations are proceeding. It will come as a package deal.

The Third World nations (under the leadership of Brazil, India, etc.) are refusing to further reduce barriers to our industrialized products, or intellectual property rights (movies, software, etc.), or in financial services... unless we (& Europe & Japan) agree to cut the farm price supports which undercut their ability to sell their agricultural products in the world markets... by flooding world markets with our subsidized grains. (Not to mention our such things as our agricultural tarrifs... which keep American consumers paying more then *double* the world free market price.)

There is either free trade, or their isn't... and they seem to have awakened to that understanding.

"Maybe it can be done incrementally, but Americans don't want 3rd world wages."

'Wages' are not part of the trade negotiations, as I understand them.
