Re: I disagree. I believe they are a threat,

I've read a lot about this subject. I've read the FAS materials.
fas.org

I've read the U.S. Space Command's take on all this.
fas.org

The U.S. Space Command is where the gloves really come off for the military. There is not one hint that this is a defensive program. Instead they gloat about "full spectrum dominance" and a key component of this total aggression system of world dominance is NMD.

Furthermore, I've had personal discussions with a retired mathematician from Lawrence Livermore Lab who was assigned in the late 1980s to do calculations for the NMD system. After several months of this he threw up his hands and declared that the mathematical calculations for a successful NMD system were at least three to four decades away, due to constraints of computation and lack of basic theoretical work in the ballistics field.

NMD is nothing but a damn boondoggle at this point in time. Every so-called "test" has been a complete joke. The way the experiments are set up, with the purported "bogey" identifying itself to the response missile is ludicrous. There has not been an honest test performed yet.

Re: and spending about 1% of total defense dollars to counter that threat is money well spent.

Nonsense. For reasons stated above, it is a complete waste of the American taxpayers' dollar. Further enslaving future generations to a rapacious and greedy banking oligarchy who are ruining the future for our children and their grandchildren by saddling them with unpayable debts. This is insane, unless you are an ogre, and on the receiving end of this fraud. Compare what these rapacious money-men are doing to defraud the American taxpayer to what they've been doing to the Third World for decades:

Re: BMD is defensive only - by definition, and I agree with it.

Now utterly naive. There is no such thing as a purely defensive weapon. The use of NMD is to give cover to the military for even more egregious and despicable foreign adventures than the Iraqi massacre. And especially as noted above, to give cover to the militarization of space. Something that most Americans probably think is still national policy bound by international treaty, but which has been nullified by the Bush Administration's mad aggression.
