I am mortified to tell you that I just called the cleaner, and that shirt has been there for six months. I'm an idiot, it's the first thing I should have thought of. But I always go to the same cleaner, and they always remind you about what you still have there when you pick up your drycleaning or something the tailor has fixed or whatever. This she found on the shelf but it wasn't in their computer.

So now N has a nice white shirt from Brooks Brothers -- a shirt I wouldn't have bought if I hadn't been feeling time pressure. Well, it's very nice. I bet he'll wear it instead of the silly wing tip shirt anyway. As you know, we went on a cruise to Bermuda in September... There is a "black tie night" on all cruises, it seems (this was my first cruise) (and was a "reading cruise," a wonderful thing, we barely left the ship, just read and read and read with no phone, no email, nothing but reading and walking about on the deck in the sun and eating and trying not to eat, very decadent, and reading some more), for which everyone gets dressed up, supposedly in dinner jackets and formal gowns. You can skip the fancy dinner if you don't want to dress up and just go to some buffet, but I didn't want to skip the fancy dinner (the chef was great), and N had NO intention of taking a tux, so I packed his black jeans, his usual black jacket (that gorgeous Calvin Klein jacket I got for $25. at Housing Works in NYC, which you've seen) (btw, I plucked his 800.- 1000. (I'll bet) tux for $25. straight out of the window of a thrift shop in Portchester minutes after they'd put it on display there), a plain black cotton shirt and a black silk tie, and he wore all that black clothing, and I wore a regular dress, but with a silly amount of jewelry to create a dressed-up gestault, and it was fine. Most men were just wearing suits & ties anyway. N doesn't have a suit, and it would have taken up luggage space we needed for reading matter if he did.

Now he has a nice white shirt, though, that would look spiffy with a suit if he ever needs one.

Of course it was at the cleaners. Drat.
