I'm still trying to figure out what you think "base" has to do with an insurgency. For an insurgent, a house, is a base. Can we control every house in Irag? The only point in having a larger base and control of territory is to mount a more conventional war, but we will always destroy them in that sort of confrontation. I suppose it also provides some bragging rights to say that they control an area where the US is denied control, but that is stupid.

All they need do is be good little hardworking peasants who smile to our faces and talk longingly about democracy and kill, oh I would say about 3 or 4 of us per day in isolated incidents, at the cost of say, 6 or 8 of them, spread across Iraq, and we will leave shortly.
