All the tea in China - only 1% is organic

BEIJING - China produces 8,000-10,000 tons of organic tea a year at present, which is only just over 1% of its total tea output.

There are more than 300 certified organize tea producers in China at present, with certified tea plantation areas exceeding 8,000 hectares. They are capable of producing 3,000 tons of organic tea and over 30,000 tons of tea drinks a year.

It is understood that the export price of organic tea is 50 per cent higher than that of ordinary teas.

China has many favorable conditions to develop organic tea, including pollution-free biological environment in some mountainous and remote areas, related practical experiences and technologies, and supportive policies by some local governments.
