Rob and all: I received my first issue of "The Red Herring" today. The September issue is a "special issue", and is loaded with thought-provoking information. I plan to read it cover-to-cover.

The article on page166, titled "The digital economic revolution" is fascinating in regards to its Orwellian twist.

I'm not sure I agree with the editor's column on the last page titled, "There is no new economy" - subtitle: "Digital technologies and international competition have not changed the basic principles of economics". How basic is he talking about?

In addition, I'm not sure I agree with his statement that "Less than one quarter of the American economy is affected by international trade." IMHO, virtually 100% of the American economy is affected, directly or indirectly, by international trade! Nevertheless, it was an insightful article - well worth contemplating.

I didn't previously know a technology existed that "stores, transmits, and manipulates information residing within packets of light" (page86). I don't know what that means, but apparently those at Optivision do - Red Herring's winner of the "bloodiest edge" award.

I recommend the Sept. issue of "The Red Herring" to anyone interested in economics and some of the top technology companies in America today.
