When I review legal documents, I usually arrive at one or more operating theories as to what they mean. The more laws and contracts I have to sift through, the more confused I become. Enter a fresh viewpoint, and we can start to discuss and argue the meaning. This process clarifies my understanding of it. Lawyers are advocates for their client(s). Their job is to advocate the most favorable legal interpretation with a reasonable chance of being ruled correct. Loyal opposition performs a useful check on optimistic interpretations of laws. Thanks.
