I'll give a simpler explanation for the wide range of results on cognitive decline after cabg. Outcome depends on whether the studies are conducted by CT surgeons or by ICU attendings

I'll admit that the state of affairs is moderately humorous in a pathetic sort of way, but I find it significantly irritating to see something so important completely bungled. I would suggest that you may be right that the thing the competent studies have in common is the right sort of study conductors - however I would suggest that it is more about having lots of neuropsychologists and fewer cardiac surgeons. (Speculation on my part - but would you go to your Cardiologist when you were feeling 'fuzzy'?) And it isn't at all clear that Pharmos understood this difficulty when designing their exploratory study. So I'll bet they are having an interesting time trying to mine gold from a bunch of very noisy data. I hope I am wrong, but as November goes on with no word I tend to think that is some confirmation since mining gold from garbage is difficult. Good thing I am much more confident about the upcoming TBI study!
