Have you tried searching for a metaanalysis?

The only right way to do the study would be an extensive pre surgey work up, including neuropsych testing and mri's. Then post surgical tests, scans, and then again at some intervals (you may have brief changes that resolve within a few weeks/months). Even better would be a comparison group (stents, for example). There's a change that decline may be occuring in this population for some other reason.

Also, take a look at the off-pump data for CABG. Proponents claim that if a "no pump, no clamp" technique is used, the risk of neurologic disease is virtually nil (I guess they are tacitly ackowledging that it isn't nil if you use a pump).

A technically incredible surgery to watch, btw.
