The issue isn't about telling someone they can't do what they want to do. When someone wants to marry they don't just want to do something, they want recognition and support of their actions and their relationship by society and the government.

I would say it’s more about recognition and acceptance than about support, and I see no valid reason for society to withhold either recognition or acceptance. The only reason I see at all is prejudice, and I don’t think that’s a valid reason. It’s a prejudice that, as I said before, I share in many ways. I try not to act on that prejudice, and I think society at large should make the same effort.
