Clearly, GWB and the crazies know that this technology can't possibly work. And they just as clearly know that the American people are hog-tied into a hysterical reaction to all the foreign bogeymen that we supposedly face. And that the profits of a silly boondoggle like NMD flow to the bribers of the GOP in an endless bilking of the gullible public. This sort of a scam has been labeled a "self-licking ice cream cone" by an expert on Pentagon follies:

Of course, old Henry Mencken didn't need to be a Pentagon analyst to see the world at work when he penned this famous line:

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace in a continual state of alarm (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing them with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
