I think the data, doesn't seem to back you up.

Nationally (in 2000) the 5 most segregated metros (by the dissimilarity index) in the United States are: Detroit(58% voted for Kerry), Milwaukee(49.4% voted for Kerry - statewide independents got about 1% of the vote), New York(69% voted for Kerry), Newark(53% voted for Kerry), and Chicago(61% voted for Kerry).

Nationally, the 5 least segregated metros in the United States are: Orange County(39% voted for Kerry), San Jose(64% voted for Kerry), Phoenix(43% voted for Kerry), Riverside-San Bernadino(43% voted for Kerry), Norfolk-Virgina Beach(45% voted for Kerry).

Now this isn't exactly fair, because in general, Southern and Western metropolitan areas are less segregated than Northeastern and Midwestern cities. But even if you look at the cities on a regional basis, metros that voted democratic tended to be more segregated than republican metros.

In the Western region of the United States; the most segregated metropolitan area is Los Angeles (63% vote for Kerry) the least is Orange County (39% vote for Kerry).

In the South; the most segregated metro is Miami (53% vote for Kerry), the least segregated metro is Norfolk-Virgina Beach (45.3% vote for Kerry).
