Most of BC is a minefield of native rights claims, however I investigated pretty carefully the issue at Galore Creek (which would extend to Copper Canyon), and concluded that the natives would be onside in this one. For one, the area is remote enough that the vast majority of natives would not be impacted. More importantly, a lot of natives have been involved in mining at Eskay Creek nearby, which will be winding down about the same time that Galore Creek would be starting up. They would get new jobs rather than becoming unemployed, and the community would prosper. The current Tahltan leadership believes the community needs gainful employment like mining to avoid the kind of poverty and alcohol or drug abuse that seriously impacts other native communities in Canada.

I think that a more serious worry is that the NDP might win the next election and institute more repressive laws for permitting that might tie up the projects. I'm not sure if this is a possibility or not because I haven't been keeping up with BC politics, but an election is coming in a year or so I think.
