In some honesty though, I think it would have been far better to have left Saddam in power as a foil against the Iranians, who he hates. He above all, like any dictator, was interested in his own personal power, and despite the odd donation to Palestinian terrorism, he would never have left Al Qaeda a very long leash on his own territory.

Now we're spread pretty thin and I have no idea how to deal with these problems.

I personally view Iran as far more dangerous in terms of nuclear weapons than North Korea, even taking into account the significant risk that North Korea would try to sell their weapons on the market to make some money. And unless someone really knows what they're doing buying from NK, they'll be most likely to get a chicken stuffed with wet newspaper. NK stiffed Saddam on some deal notably.

Of the actual populations in the region, the Iranian public was the least anti American of all, but they are almost totally opposed to the US now.
