Now I don't about you guys, but I commonly remember Ph. D. profs in college being referred to using the title "Doctor". They do in fact have a doctorate degree. That's what Ph. D. stands for- -"Philosophiæ Doctor" in Latin or Doctor of Philosophy in English.
