Aside from that, I've already answered your question many times over. I do not believe that such a threat will deter bin Laden.

bin Laden is not beholden to ANY state. Holy sites - I am no Islamic scholar, but I do not believe that threatening these would deter bin Laden or any determined *non-state* group. Indeed, such a threat would serve to underscore their position that we are the Great Satan. Would not God therefore be trusted to decide the outcome then? Whatever He wills, will be? Destroy holy sites, therefore God Wills It.

Many religions believe as much.

Bush believes he is guided by God, by his own admission, and you can bet he is not talking about the decisions he makes as to what tie to wear.

I can't support the mecca threat because it serves no purpose.

That doesn't mean I suggest retaliation or threats are not useful - but you've put your own view on this threat and I simply do not believe that a determined terrorist would share your view.

The other, practical problem of nuking Mecca is that the US gets a lot of oil from Saudi Arabia (second largest supplier for an individual country behind Canada). Plus nuking S.A. will turn off the taps to the US unless the US threatens them all with Nukes. That leads to Israel being nuked or some other way attacked.

Not the scenario you are hoping for, I don't think.
