During a presentation at International Sematech's Global Economic Symposium here, Dean Freeman, an analyst at Gartner/Dataquest, indicated that less than 10 equipment suppliers in total could satisfy most of the IC industry's requirements within the next decade.

I don't think chipmakers will like this (trend).
My impression if someone like Intel sees potential in small guy they will help to make the small guy successful.
If I recall correctly Intel neither selected AMAT nor NVLS for (lowk?) CVD - rather they selected ASMI.

Mattson is getting business in strip and RTP against NVLS and AMAT

Another example is metrology and defect inspection where a number of small companies that compete very successfully:
RTEC, TWAV , ADEX, AUGT , NANO are competing successfully with KLA
(TWAV was actully up today)
I'm curious to hear what the board thinks about small cap equips.

as between 20-to-40 percent of all vendors could disappear over the next decade, warned an analyst from Gartner Inc. on Thursday (Oct. 18).

Besides what is the Sales volume of
the 20% - 40% percent $ wise?

(I think Dean used to work at Lam CVD unit)

BTW when I red the story about 450 mm wafers I was thinking it might be not a bad idea to reasign the AMAT guy who was talking about 450 mm wafer to a position where he can add some value - but that's just my PO
