Speaking of love:

nytimes.com

this sounds like an interesting movies, doesn't it? And since we were recently talking about noth archaeology, the politics thereof, and homosexuality, what a neat fit this movie is!

I took my classes to see Troy last year, and we were all amused that the movie changed Patroclus into a cousin, rather than the love interest he clearly was in the original. My classes agreed the story makes more sense if you understand that Achilles has just lost the love of his life (or maybe my classes just don't like their cousins that much). Anyway, it's interesting to see a movie tackle the issue of ancient morality head on. We saw tons of Apulian ware on our travels through the UK and France- it's very clear, at least from the images, that the Ancient Greeks swung both ways, and swung often (and shoule anyone really mind? And should we try to cover that up? And if we do want to hush it up, WHY do we want to hush it up?).
