Gus > No matter that the United States has traditionally regarded Latin America as its backyard, source of many of the raw materials it requires and the main market for its finished products. Suddenly, China's presence can be felt everywhere in the region, from the backwaters of the Amazon to mining camps in the Andes.
A most interesting article both for what it says and for what it doesn't say.
Clearly, for what it says, China is becoming the dominant trade partner of most South American countries.
And, for what it doesn't say, China is sticking its finger in the US' nose and is in effect saying, "Move over buddy, you've had your time." -- almost like it's taunting an old, toothless bulldog. Which means that the US has to put China's name higher up on the Axis of Evil list for "regime change", possibly after Iran and Syria, but before N. Korea, France and Russia. And it looks like Cheney, Wolfowitz, Feith and Co will have to be working overtime in their Office of Special Plans -- likewise bin Laden in his movie studio! |
