This is exactly right. Leaders before and since Jefferson have openly declared national days of prayer. Nothing should give Jefferson's one personal opinion authority above the entire legal tradition of the United States. A National Day of Prayer exists even today and yet leftists would tell you that because one guy decided he wouldn't declare such a day, a "wall" suddenly showed up between God and the United States. Ridiculous.
