Now this statement is definitely accurate. Pathetic, but accurate.


Nothing in the academic life necessarily prepares scholars for the rigors of leadership. In fact, one could make a strong argument for the proposition that the kind of contemplation and deliberation required of scholars are a liability to policy makers.

Our most gifted leaders have hardly been academicians while some of our academician/leaders have been a disaster. Brezinszki and Kissinger, both of whom were in Rice's position, come to mind as unadulterated failures despite having had brilliant academic careers.

All of which is a long way of saying that academic and scholarly success do not necessarily translate into effective policy-making or executive skills.
