If gold went up to $500, do you think people holding gold mining stocks would sell because of a general market collapse?Don't you think that it would give people even more reason to hang on to their mining shares?

the argument often given is that many people are on margin and will have to sell everything they have, including gold stocks, in a mkt collapse. my guess is that if the market collapses because of a declining currency or perceived economic weakness, there will be enough people who will be happy to take the gold shares off the sellers' hands.
