Stephen,

Get it straight and drop the hysterical misinterpretations:

"Apple refuses to license Mac OS 8.0"

Absolutely incorrect! From the article you quoted:

...discontinuing an offer of software upgrades to customers of clone vendors.
-Snip-
Apple's upgrade program, Mac OS Up-To-Date, has traditionally worked like this: People who have purchased computers can upgrade to the newest version of the Mac OS if Apple releases a new OS within 30 days of the purchase. Apple sends customers the newer version for $10, instead of the usual $99 retail price.

But yesterday, the company posted information stating that this program no longer applied to clone vendors.

There have been no announcements whatsoever regarding Apple and the clonemakers' licensing arrangements for OS 8.0, only rampant speculation.

For all any of us know, Apple may in fact kill the licensing deal with the clonemakers for OS 8.0, but it hasn't happened yet!

If you'd been reading the other posts here in the past couple of weeks, we've all been intelligently (for the most part) discussing the POSSIBLE ramifications of the VARIOUS decisions Apple MIGHT make regarding licensing.

If you really don't understand what licensing is, or where these companies stand in their negotiations, how can you possibly say:
"THis is definitely a negative sign"

Before you make rash statements predicting the death of a company, research what you're commenting on, read through the spin (from either side), and make your OWN opinion. If you're just here to "Spread the FUD," take a hike.

Dirk
