You're right about English and Mechanix. I had forgotten about them because Tech, another exam school, is gone and English is now a terrible dump of a school. In your days, English and Latin were good academic and athletic rivals. Now Boston Latin and Latin Academy (the old Girls Latin) are the only public exam schools and the only Boston public schools getting over 1,000 in the SATs.

Nice to talk with a fellow with Bostonian roots and a good memory. Do you remember the old police station on Center St in W. Roxbury across from Hanley's Bakery?
