As I said, I do not think it would be an effective deterrent. That is the principal thing. As for the other horn of the dillemma, sorry, but some rhetorical posturing, which is about what we have faced over Iraq, is not nearly the same as globally enforced sanctions. Name of country that has broken off diplomatic relations with us? One multilateral organization that has officially censured us, or expelled us? Name any real consequence apart from not getting much help with Iraq itself, despite the nattering of some of our posters about world sentiment. Even France has troops in Afghanistan, after all. So, no, I was not indifferent to world opinion, I just didn't think we would take much of a hit. Reaction to US policy could be much worse, and would be if we threaten to blow up third parties for the sins of Al Qaida. To me, you are just making the worst of a bad situation, because deterrence will be unreliable, and because it will actually harm our interests merely to make such a threat, to a greater or lesser degree........
