I never though of the elevation aspect, hmmmmmm

these ponds are lined with old smooth river rocks - growing between the cracks are all sorts of plants - whether there was a lining under the rocks and through neglect plants cropped up and the lining disintegrated, I don't know

I'd like to get it functioning again

but no koi, unless they like to be 'iced' over winter

stops raining long enough

the bright side?
