There was a way-- I did it often. Basically you went through a base or post operator. There was a name for it... my memory is the opposit of kerrys-- I'm foretting things while he is finding stuff no one knew of. The operator took it right to the house. Overseas I was able to get base to base-- usually to Wright Patt and pay LD only from there to PA. I had a list of installation numbers that went to the operator.... Always after normal business hours. AND-- there was no sense of privacy, the operator could listen in, actually I think they were supposed to monitor for official calls only. A couple times he cut in and said 'official traffic was picking up and I had 60 seconds". That happened from different places so it was normal practice.
