The only predictions that I have heard about were the sober ones -- about "unintended consequences" and the potential for a "protracted guerrilla war" in Iraq. Both of those are playing out as had been anticipated. The Afghan elections are a sham. Those who are growing opium by the tons don't give a damn if Karzai won. Karzai cannot even leave Kabul and even in Kabul, he needs a few thousand US soldiers to keep him alive.
