Thanks, Peter.
I'm sure the webmaster of any other kind of site would be strung up for saying this, but since we, by definition, know how businesses work, I can fess up to the fact that Premium-Plus is a way to give *all* members an opportunity to reach into their pockets and help keep the lights on.
Speaking of lights, I got woke up this morning by my wife telling me the power was out. Fun morning. Fortunately, it waited until the coffee had brewed. Unfortunately, we've got about 5 inches of snow on the ground right now and the generator's battery was dead. Had to hunt down a good battery and jumper cables (after several minutes of trying to rope-start the genny). Good thing I was able to jump-start it. Had to crank it seemingly forever before it started up. I never would've gotten it started manually.
Been running on the genny for the past hour. Well, after we turned off nearly everything but furnaces and the coffee maker because the circuit breaker on the genny kept tripping. We're nowhere near the 5k rating of it, as the engine sounds like it's barely pulling a load, so I suspect one leg is overloaded.
Looks like I'll be working from home today, which is really painful on dialup. The garage is on a different meter, so the genny's not running it, meaning I can't open the doors, meaning the cars are trapped until the juice comes back on. I'm sitting here with a garage door remote, hitting it every several minutes so I can see if the power has come back yet. I doubt it will anytime soon. That's why we have to have a generator always ready to take over. |
