<I'll stick with A&E, CNN >
Your A&E piece is merely an interview with Bush himself (who, I note, has figured out that it would be a good idea to switch from a mocking imitation of Carla Ray Tucker to a demeanor of grave sympathy).
Your CNN piece begins, "Lucas, Henry Lee(1936-2001) Murderer." and ends by saying it is unclear how many murders he committed, and "some" believe it was "just three" (including his mother).
So according to your sources, the most people killed by the comical (to Bush) Carla Faye was two, the fewest killed by the man whose sentence he made the decision to commute was three.
On the evidence, and their convictions, he could have chosen to commute Carla Faye, he could have chosen to execute Lucas. As a Christian who (presumably) believes in redemption, he had much more reason to commute instead of ridicule Carla Faye's impending death.
Below is of course my central point, and instead of commenting on it, you have chosen to retry Lucas:
What startled people most about Bush's not commuting her sentence wasn't that fact itself, and that he spends no more than fifteen minutes on commutation appeals (sometimes a little as four minutes) ... but that he mocked the condemned woman publicly, pursing his lips and whimpering as if in imitation of her, "Please don't kill me!"
I find that mean and repulsive. I think Bush doesn't understand a great many things.
R.D.! You seemed to have overlooked your role of denial! Instead, you've just ignored the point (my post was a response to a post specifically about Bush's "character,") instead simply retrying a case as though Bush's callow, nasty character were not the issue. Just an oversight, I'm sure.
I now await the denial. Proceed! |
