[Re: Westell/Amati Split]

<<It just makes good business sense to have multiple sources of supply.>>

Absolutely true. Here at work, they keep the mainframe vendors split about 50%/50% IBM and Amdahl, and split the new PC desktop business between Compaq and HP Previously, we were a 100% NCR desktop shop (ugh). Big UNIX boxes are a similar story; we had been restricted to 100% NCR, but are now moving to a mix of NCR, HP and SUN, depending upon various factors. These factors include such things as: the Quality of the Golf Outings THEIR muckety-mucks treated OUR muckety-mucks to; the quality and quantity of T-shirt and mugs handed out to OUR muckety-muck's underlings, and, occassionally, the Input of the Technical People.

I'm much happier now that I've Accepted The Situation.

(Repo Man is a Classic. So is the movie Heavy Metal. Great soundtrack, too)
