I read about when all these British citizens broke away from Britain, and ended up fighting a war as Britain tried to defend it's view that it should get to keep those colonies because that was the will of millions and millions of British citizens, or more accurately, the will of those citizens' government, by George. But after a few years and with much help from the French, those danged citizens of the self-declared independent United States managed to prevail with their own view of themselves.
