Because it's a silly little company. In 5 years it's employee count went from 50 to about 70. That's swell, but it's still fewer than than the number of window washers and floor sweepers at a single office of its competitors.

At most it can design things using mostly or entirely off the shelf chips, and outsource just everything else. Where's the profit margin in that? The giant electronics companies can do it ALL in house (design, design proprietary chips, distribute) and have a tremendous advantage.

And PC cards are a lousy business. They're mostly a stop gap between a new device (blue tooth, 802.11, etc.) and the time that such stuff is integrated into computers and PDAs. That means the time between design and end-of-product life is short; another factor making this company on an eternal run for the horizon and never getting there.

Should this company be proud it made it to profitability. Sure!

But will this company ever be a big deal?

Please.

Don't be fooled by the memories of the time this shot up to (what was it? 90?). At lot bigger and more substantial companies reached heights then they won't see for 20 more years or ever, and puny cutsy SCKT is unlikely to be one of them.
