<i would choose door #3: repudiate the debt and fu#$ em>

LOL... I didn't know you were American?

BTW, I don't see the choice really... THEORETICALLY there is a choice sure... but politicians aren't going to sit there on their hands and admit they spent money foolishly and now we really need to let our ancestors pay it back!! It would be on thing if the debtors AND creditors were American... then you could have a battle. But with all the feriners holding the bag, really, are they going to worry weed through all the theoretical implications of future confidence in dollars and all that mess when no one seems to give a rats ass about global confidence or opinion with respect to other issues??

Let's face it... it's been a fabulous party aided by naive creditors... and again, it's simply a replay of "every day in America" only on a large scale. OK, if you're from other cultures maybe there is disbelief that anyone wouldn't pay back what's borrowed... but in America it's not a problem, least of all since most Americans wouldn't even look at printing more money to pay the debt as dishonest!!!
